Paintings of Ms. Shanahan's in Sumi'e and Watercolor have been displayed in both National and Regional exhibits. She has had work displayed in the prestigious "Women's Work 4", sponsored by the Greater Rochester Women's Fund, and on display in the Shoestring Gallery and the National Women's Hall of Fame, in New York. Her work has been juried into the Savage Mill Art Guild Show, the Fifth and Sixth National Havre de Grace Exhibit, and Riverwalk Juried Exhibit in York. Pa.
Her work is on display at PictureScapes Gallery in Phoenix, Md.
A resident of Harford County, Md., she has studied with several local artists, and done extensive self-study in the disciplines of Watercolor, Sumi'e, and Chinese brush stroke painting.
Her work in watercolor frequently reflects an Oriental influence in her interpretation of space as an element in the composition of the overall painting.
Ms. Shanahan is a Signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and the Maryland Art League. She is an active member of her local arts organization, The Harford Artists' Association.

This painting of Chase is based upon the genre of sporting dog paintings done starting around 1890 and later. This period of canine art is best known for portraying the structure of the dog accurately and in an environment appropriate to his specific use as a sporting dog.
The background is historically accurate for the painting and is typical of the Chesapeake Bay area of Maryland, which provides a haven for all sorts of wildlife, including lots of wild geese and ducks. It is also the area where Charles LeBoutillier, Frances Fisher, and a few others began the revival of poodles as working retrievers.
I have, however, chosen to represent Chase in a modern version of the working contintental, with placement of bracelets and jacket determined by modern standards rather than what would have been normal for a poodle in the early 1900 period.
Prints in two sizes are available. |
